January 2010Tony Romo honored during EIU visit
Communication studies alumnus Tony Romo, now the Dallas Cowboys' starting quarterback, returned to the Eastern campus for Homecoming to have his Panthers jersey retired and to be inducted into the EIU Athletic Hall of Fame.

Corn-Revere receives alumni award
Speech communication alumnus Bob Corn-Revere '77, a First Amendment and communications lawyer in Washington D.C., received a Distinguished Alumnus award during EIU Homecoming. During his visit, he spoke to a group of 125 communication studies students and faculty.

WEIU-TV collects awards, including Emmy
Several communication studies majors have received prestigious awards this year, including WEIU-TV's Mid-America Emmy for its student-produced local newscast, "News Watch."

EIU graduate student wins thesis award
Communication studies graduate student Tasha Dunn Rennels received the 2010 Thesis Award of Excellence in the College of Arts and Humanities, the second-highest form of recognition for a thesis project at EIU.

Farewell to six faculty members
Best wishes to six communication studies faculty members who recently left EIU: Terry Perkins and Norman Greer have retired; Mehdi Semati and Susan Enck-Wanzer left to pursue positions at Northern Illinois University and North Texas University, respectively; and Leah LeFevre and Katie Striley moved on continue their graduate studies.
